Welcome to Silk Social Book Club
Mission
1. To provide a stimulating and fun-filled environment for men and women, ages 30 and above, to network and socialize while exchanging opinions and ideas through monthly discussions about books written by African Americans.
2. To support African American Authors.
3. To allow book club members the opportunity to meet African American Authors.
4. To provide feedback to African American Authors through book discussions and/or book reviews.
5. To expand the book club members’ knowledge of quality African American literature by reading a variety of genres:

Book Club Guidelines
• Book club is open to men and women, ages 30 and above. Each club member that refers 5 people to the book club that results in them joining the club will receive the next selected book free of charge.
• There is no fee to join the book club; however, there is a fee to join the Silk Social Club. • Book club will only read and discuss quality books written by African American authors.
• Book club will only read one book per month.
• The Group Leader will first review and select all books to be read by the book club. Each quarter, a selection of books made by the Group Leader will be presented to the book club for a decision on which books to be read for the following 3 months. A majority vote will decide.
• In order to vote, you must attend 3 consecutive book club meetings.
• Length of books chosen will not exceed 300 pages. Book club members may recommend books for club reading by submitting the book title and author to the Group Leader.
• Book club members must purchase each book that is selected for reading.
• Book club will meet once a month on the last Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30p.m. at a designated place, usually a restaurant or lounge. Book club members are responsible for any food or beverages ordered at the restaurant unless otherwise notified. Location may vary each month. Group leader will provide at least 2-weeks advance notice of meeting location.
Meeting Guidelines
• Meetings will last no more than 2 hours, held on the last Thursday of every month from 6:30p.m. – 8:30p.m.
• Meetings will begin promptly at 6:30p.m.
• Please plan to attend each meeting on time.
• Contact the Group Leader if you plan to bring a friend to ensure enough seating. You may also register yourself and guest online www.silksocialclub.com (Current Events|Event Registration)
• No children or animals allowed during meeting times.
• Please turn phones to vibrate or silent during meeting time. If you need to take a phone call, please go to another area.
• All books selected for the month must be read by the next scheduled meeting. Please plan to participate in all book discussions.
• Disrespect, cursing and violent behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone exhibiting this behavior will be asked to leave the club permanently.
• At all times, please be respectful. While a member is speaking, please do not interrupt. We will try to give everyone a chance to voice his or her ideas and opinions.
